the medallions are missing their backers but the set is in an otherwise extremely fine condition

the obverse bearing the central monogram of Grand Duke Friedrich Franz IV with a Royal Crown on the twelve o’clock arm and “1914” on the six o’clock arm

to allow his Company Sergeant to build a fortified dugout that would secure the Canadian position once the salient was overrun

Constructed of silvered zink, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel and oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, overlaid by a swooping Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika, the reverse with two visible rivets securing the eagle in position, with a crimped hinge and vertical pinback meeting a flat wire catch, unmarked but demonstrating the characteristics of manufacture by Friedrich Linden,
