Description

The scene recreates fighting around the hospital building where soldiers of the 24th Regiment of Foot defended wounded men and evacuated patients while under attack by Zulu warriors during the Anglo-Zulu War

A soldier of the 24th Foot would typically wear the red coat uniform of the British Army

Kneeling also allowed the rear rank to fire over the heads of the front rank

reduce exposure to enemy fire

ensuring entire ranks could reload and fire in coordinated cycles
