Scratchwork Lacquer Pot From Barmer - Late 19th Century Material - Mulberry Wood birds & figuresThis exquisite lacquer pot originates from Barmer, a desert town in western Rajasthan close to the Sindh border. Dating to the late 19th century, it is an exceptional example of traditional Indian scratchwork lacquerware, renowned for its vivid colour and intricate hand carved surface designs. The floral motifs have been delicately incised through the upper lacquer layers to reveal contrasting tones beneath, producing a striking decorative effect.
