It is then decorated by hand before firing. The name "Yuhuchunping" means literally "Pear shaped Vase" and is a style originating in the Tang dynasty (608 917) for use as a wine vessel. Later the shape was refined and became a classic vase style also known as a "Trumpet Mouth Vase." The rim is slightly flared with a straight neck that broadens at the ends and a bottom heavy body.
