If you change carpet to the modern thicker carpeting, old F channel sometimes wont fit. The purpose of the Deck Trim is to cover the riser brackets, the L trim does the job without the worry of fitting over carpet and decking. The best way to install deck trim is with a fastener through the deck trim, carpet and decking into a cross channel. Mounting through the decking
