mistaking it for a variegated Portea petropolitana in its non-blooming state

All branches are slightly secund towards the tips

Aechmea manzanaresiana Size:Offset forming a diamond-like pattern downAn excellent species coming from the eastern slopes of the Ecuadorian Andes. An epiphyte with a stiff leaved upright open rosette, small but stiff spines and a stoloniferous habit, forming massive colonies 50 to 100 feet off the ground. The magnificent inflorescence is a cluster of 20 to 50 branches vividly colored almost florescent orange.
